"Seeking to respond to the Word and the will of God"
Faith United Church of Christ was formally organized in 1897. A blacksmith shop sitting on a 50'x80' lot served as the first church. The first pastor of Faith Church was the Reverend Daniel Glass.
"Walking together in the ways of the Lord"
On July 16, 1901, ground was broken for a new Faith Church to replace the blacksmith shop that was too small to house the growing congregation. The new Faith Church was dedicated on February 2, 1902. Reverend Glass continued to serve as pastor until his retirement on September 15, 1938.
"Witnessing to the Gospel of Jesus Christ"
On December 15, 1938, Reverend Harold Hafer was installed as the new pastor of Faith Church. Reverend Hafer served Faith Church until his death on September 2, 1952.
"Renewal, Relocation, Revitalization"
On September 1, 1953, Reverend David Mark was installed as the new pastor at Faith Church. In April of 1962, during an Urban Renewal and Developement Project, property became available in the Southeast section of the city; on May 22, 1966, ground was broken for a new location for Faith Church on South Duke, Rockland, and North Streets. The cornerstone was laid on December 11, 1966, and the new chuirch was dedicated on May 14, 1967.
"Striving for truth, justice, and peace"
Reverend Harold Hafer was succeeded by Reverend David Gockley on August 17, 1969. On June 18, 1981, the church on South Duke Street was sold to the Catholic Diocese in Harrisburg, and Faith United Church of Christ moved to its present location at 1204 Wabank Road.
Pastor Gockley served Faith United Church of Christ until February 28, 1996; he was succeeded by Reverend Melvin Mundie who served as Interim Pastor until the installation of Reverend Daniel Schultz. Reverend Schultz was succeeded by Reverend Levina Huber in 2003. Reverend Huber served Faith Church until her retirement in May of 2009, and she was succeeded by John Rieker. John has been a member of Faith Church since October of 1982. On June 17, 2007, after successfully completing the Licensed Lay Ministry Program, John was licensed to perform ministry at Faith Church and was installed as part-time Assistant Pastor on that date. On December 27, 2009, John was elected to be the next full-time pastor at Faith Church. He was officially installed as pastor on April 25, 2010.
